A Brief history of the international work camps scene In 1920, the first work camp was set up in France by a group of European youngsters. The project was based on an international, nonpartisan effort to reconstruct a French village that was destroyed during World War I. The objectives were to rebuild Europe after the war and to bring people from formerly enemy countries together. Since this first realization, work camp programs have been springing up all over the world and many national, regional and international organizations have been created. Challenge camps : A step above In 2011 we have risen up and created what we hope will be an even greater experience for volunteers. What has happened during our renovation of these camps is to allow for better cultural exchange, a greater sense of accomplishment, and hopefully help people not wake up on the wrong side of the bed. To achieve these greater aims we have gone into communities and will hopefully have much better cooperation and interaction with the community. Each two week Challenge camp will have a specific objective within the scales of work to accomplish while they are together. The aims Challenge camps are intended to create alternative ways of thinking; they promote cultural exchange, intercultural learning, environmental care, community development and sustainable growth. Each two-week Challenge camp will have a specific aim within their respective focus We, at PSF, aim especially at building strong relationships with the host communities and creating the right environment for learning-by-doing. Through Challenge camps local people are empowered and motivated to start activities needed for local development. Through our programs both Thais and international volunteers acquire new personal skills and enhance peaceful attitudes toward the others. During the Challenge camps, you are expected to work between 5 and 6 hours a day, five days per week. Usually Saturdays and Sundays are non working days. Our projects focus on three main topics: environment, education and social work. In all cases, VOLUNTEERS MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND WORK FOR A BETTER WORLD! What is Included?
